The ingredients needed to cook Fish Masala:
  1. You need 500 gms Fish (I took Red Snapper or Laal bhetki)
  2. Prepare 1 Large Onion
  3. You need 5-6 cloves garlic
  4. Use 1 inch ginger
  5. You need 1 small onion sliced
  6. Use 2 Green chillies sliced
  7. You need 1 medium tomato sliced
  8. Prepare 1.5 tbsp Mix Masala Powder
  9. Use 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  10. Take 1/2 Tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
  11. You need 1.5 tsp Salt or as per your taste
  12. Take 1/2 Tsp Cumin Powder
  13. Take 1 tsp + 1/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  14. You need leaves Some Finely chopped coriander
  15. Prepare 1 Tbsp Oil (Refined or Mustard)
  16. Use 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  17. You need 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
Instructions to make Fish Masala:
  1. First Wash the fish pieces very well and keep aside.
  2. Grind Onion, ginger and garlic into a fine paste and keep all ingredients ready.
  3. Heat oil in a kadhai or wok and once it is hot, add to it mustard and cumin. The moment it splutters, add to it thr sliced onion and fry till translucent.
  4. Now add tomato, green chillies and the onion-ginger-garlic paste and mix well. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until it turns golden brown.
  5. Now add little water and cook for another 1 minute.
  6. Add the dry masalas and mix well. Add water to ensure dry masalas doesnt burn and give a stir. Cover the wok and cook until the masala is cooked. Normally we come to know this when oil begins to float over masla. But I have used very little oil, so here it is not the same case. Keep adding little water to adjust the consistency.
  7. Once the masla is done, add a little water and mix well.
  8. Now add the fish pieces and mix well. Cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.
  9. Add water as per your requirement for the gravy and adjust salt if you want. Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
  10. Open the lid and give a stir. Add rest of the garam masala powder and mix well. Cook for another 10 minutes.
  11. Delicous fish masala is ready. It can be served with Steamed rice, naan, parotha and chapati. I will make butter naan to serve along with this recipe and share it's recipe also. Dish out the fish masala and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
