Almost any cooking procedure you are using in the kitchen could be duplicated around the campfire. For instance, use a toaster or pit cooking to consume your food. You could also easily fry foods at a bowl over a grill, or boil, braise and beverage. What kind of camping cookware is best for you? Camp cooking and clean-up may be easy or a hassle, but it all starts with great camping equipment.

Some pots/pans come in sets that mate collectively or"nest" for storage and also let you tuck a spoonful of gas within them. This really comes in handy once you’re seeking to save room while camping.

If you have only a few campers and are looking for some very easy camp cooking, try the easy and speedy technique of tin could cooking. All you will need is a clean tin can – a 1 gallon size can works well. Your source of warmth may be small campfire, or when wood burning is illegal, a little buddy burner may work nicely, which may be seen at sporting good stores or online. Place your meal in the tin can and simply heat the contents of your own can over a flame. You will have a hot meal ready in seconds. This technique works great for sauces, beans and tuna fish.

A more time-consuming pub cooking technique which also produces yummy food is pit cooking. Pit cooking is very good for items which could be wrapped in aluminum foil to be cooked. It’s also a great camp cooking method if you’re using a dutch oven or cast iron cookware. Pit cooking warms your food by heating stones and coals which are concealed in the floor. As the stones cool away, their emitted heat cooks the food. To pit cook, first dig a hole that’s about three times larger than your own cookware. Line the pit with rocks and build a fire in the middle. When the fire has burnt rapidly for about an hour, push the hot coals and stone into the middle. Layer your wrapped meals or covered skillets on top of the stones and coals and put on top. After a couple of hours, you’ll have some tasty camp food to enjoy.

Instructions to make Turkey-Quinoa Burgers with an Avocado-Yogurt Sauce:
  1. In a food processor, combine the avocado, yogurt, 1/2 of the cilantro, lime juice and a pinch of salt until smooth like butter. Place in the fridge until time to serve. (I didn't have fresh cilantro so I subbed 1 tbsp dried cilantro.)
  2. Cook the quinoa in about 1 1/2 - 2 cups boiling water for about 12-15 minutes or until it pops into little spirals and water is absorbed.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the turkey, cooked quinoa, bell pepper, half the cilantro, chili powder, cumin, ground coriander (I didn't have any so I left it out), garlic powder, and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Thoroughly mix with your hands, and then form into four little patties. You can chill these in the fridge if you want, for as long as you want, or go ahead and cook ‘em!
  4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add the patties and sear until browned on both sides and cooked all the way through, 10 – 12 minutes total. Set aside.
  5. Lightly toast the onion buns brushed with olive oil and garlic salt.
  6. Smear a little of the avocado sauce on the bottom half of the onion bun. Top with a patty. Then a ton more avocado sauce. Then some crumbled cotija cheese. Then ask someone how to pronounce cotija…and then tell me. Lol! (I subbed queso fresco cuz I couldn't find it.)
  7. Excellent served with sweet potato fries and enjoy!

Smear a little of the avocado sauce on the bottom half of the onion bun. Top with a chicken-quinoa patty, more avocado sauce then some crumbled cotija cheese. Serve with sweet potato fries (or tots in my case). The mixture will be very moist. Shape into a loaf on a foil lined baking sheet.
