If you have just a couple of campers and are searching for some simple camp cooking, try the simple and quick technique of tin can cooking. All you will need is a fresh tin can – a 1 gallon size may works well. Your source of heat may be small campfire, or when wood burning is prohibited, a little buddy burner will work well, which can be found at sporting good stores or online. Place your meal in the tin could and easily warm the contents of your own can over a fire. You’ll have a hot meal ready in seconds. This technique works great for sauces, beans and poultry.
A more time-consuming camp cooking technique which also produces tasty food is pit cooking. It’s also a wonderful camp cooking system if you are using a dutch oven or cast iron cookware. Pit cooking warms your food by heating rocks and coals which are buried in the ground. As the rocks cool off, their emitted heat cooks the food. To pit cook, first dig a hole that is about three times larger than your cookware. Line the pit with rocks and build a fire in the center. Once the fire has burnt rapidly for about one hourpush the warm coals and stone into the center. Twist your wrapped meals or covered skillets on top of the rocks and coals and place more on top. After a couple of hours, you will have some delicious camp food to relish.

A stromboli is a North American Italian invention said to be invented in Pennsylvania by Italian American immigrants (Philly cheesesteak versions are common there too). It is said to be named after the island of Stromboli off the North coast of Sicily or the film of the same name. This is a view of the eastern side of the island and the Sciara del Fuoco (Stream of Fire) collapse scar, which funnels tephra and lava flows to the sea. Stromboli's Pizza is a family owned restaurant in Bilgola Plateau on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. We're open Wednesday to Sunday and serving gourmet thin crust pizza, fresh salads, and desserts like our delightful Nutella and Strawberry Pizza for take away and delivery to Bilgola, Avalon, Clareville and Newport.
